Epagneul Breton “Elsie” Masters Three Registries

By Doug Lodermeier Sr.
In September of 2012, TR Vigueur de L’Escarbot, MH, NA PZ1, UT PZ2, completed mastering three registries  “hunt/field” criteria with her Utility Prize (UT) in the North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association  (NAVHDA). Previously Elsie received titles denoting that of a finished dog in both UKC, and AKC registries.  She is also a member of the St. Croix Valley Brittany Club Hall of Fame.

In all, Elsie has earned 9 individual titles within the three registries. Elsie has earned her UKC Trialer title, AKC  Junior, Senior, and Master Hunter tiles, and NAVHDA Natural Ability (NA) Prize 1, as well as 2X Utility title  (UT), Prize 2 and 2X UT Prize 3. Elsie finished one point short of the coveted Prize 1 twice which would have  made her eligible for the NAVHDA Invitational, the highest testing venue for a dog within that registry. It is thought that Elsie is the first and only Epagneul Breton to accomplish all three of these milestones.

Elsie will begin training for the Utility Test again in early 2015 in an attempt to gain her UT Prize 1 and make a  trip to the NAVHDA Invitational.  All of this has to wait of course as Elsie is starting the hunting season. After all, she is a hunting dog first and foremost!

Baron Maquis de L’Escarbot

baron-testLgBaron Maquis de L’Escarbot son of T’Ursene de St. Lubin (France) and Toy de St. Lubin (France)

He got a Pass at the Nationals in Montana and a Reserve at Florida and Georgia events. Think now I can add “GUN” to his title but haven’t got anything for the UKC on that yet. He got a First Place in the Altered Class Males (the blue ribbon) in Montana but I don’t they did the altered class right so don’t know where this stands – no one has contacted us one way or the other.

First Ever French Brittany Spaniel NAVHDA Versatile Champion

Not only did Boo get her Versatile Champion title, she was one of only a few dogs who got a perfect score!

The highlight was the last event. She was required to watch a live shackled duck flung into the air while I blanked it. After the duck hit the water 70 yards away, I sent her for the retrieve. The duck took off and Boo went the completely wrong way. She covered over 600 yards of lily pad infested water, almost caught two wild ducks, and took 19 of the possible 20 minutes before she emerged in front of the gallery with a duck in mouth. The duck had hit land and crawled 40 yards up a hill towards the gallery. People were standing and cheering for 30 lb. wonder dog.
